2014 Design Trends for Your Home

The new year brings many homeowners the excitement of renovating their home.  If you're thinking about renovating your home in 2014, here are the design trends of the new year, according to Zillow Blog.

Kitchen

The kitchen is looking sleek and bold in 2014, with these design trends:

  • Black countertops
  • Open shelves or glass-front cabinets (to display dinnerware)
  • Darker paint tones (black, deep brown, dark red, rich copper)

Master bedroom

The three buzzwords of the new year for the master bedroom are "warm," "welcoming," and "inviting," especially in the face of the "casual-contemporary" bedroom trend.
  • Casual-contemporary atmosphere
  • Harmony and ease by mixing the right textures and elements
  • Neutral color palate, particularly gray (for rustic and contemporary vibes), as well as blue
  • Subtle and soothing
  • Boutique-like feel: compartmentalized storage, shoe walls, vanity areas, focal points

Bathroom

Spacious, open, and light is the atmosphere of 2014.  Bathrooms are taking on the appearance of an in-home spa with these features:
  • Large showers with multiple shower heads for the "embellished shower experience" as opposed to the "bath" experience
  • Frameless shower enclosures
  • Glass tiles to enlarge the space
  • Shower curtains replaced with glass

Home office

Think of the home office as a dual-functioning quiet and clean space to blur the line between home and work.
  • Double functioning office and guest room with the use of an integrated Murphy bed
  • Vintage furniture
  • Hues of gray or brown for a soothing and non-distracting effect
