5 Reasons You Should Sell Your Home Before Spring

Many sellers believe that waiting until the spring season to sell their home is a better alternative to selling during the winter.

In all actuality, this isn't entirely true.  Selling during the winter has its own distinct set of advantages.  Here are a few of our favorites, courtesy of our friends at KCM blog.

During Winter, Only Serious Buyers Are Looking

During the winter, and particularly during the holiday season, the buyers that are out looking are typically very serious buyers with a more immediate need.  There are less "lookers" - that is those who are only starting to look around to figure out what they want.

You Have Less Competition

If you put your home on the market during the winter, you will have less properties to compete with than during the more hectic spring selling season.  Buyers will be more likely to see your property because their choices are down.

You Will Have a Quicker Process

The contract to closing process can be a slow process no matter what the season, but if you go through the process during the winter, it will likely go a little quicker.  Banks are less busy during this season too, so they will be able to be more attentive to purchase and refinancing loan requests.

It's a Great Time to "Upgrade"

Moving up to a larger, more expensive home is best done sooner rather than later.  Home prices are expected to appreciate gradually and steadily within the next 5 years, so selling your current home during the current winter season is a great way to save on your expenses.  Additionally, now is a great time to lock in a mortgage rate, as they are still relatively low (but expected to rise).
